Ludmila Korol

Ludmila is a Ukrainian-born artist based in Dublin. Her work spans figurative painting, abstraction and watercolour, bringing together the places she has lived, the memories she carries and the worlds she imagines.

She graduated from the Kyiv State Academy of Fine Art in 1989 and later lived and worked as an artist in Prague. In 1996, she moved to Ireland to become Art Director of the Kilkenny Gallery of Modern Art, before settling in Dublin in 1998.

Her figurative paintings explore a world where everyday life and imagination meet. People, animals and musical companions appear in gardens, landscapes and interiors filled with intriguing details. Memories of her childhood in Ukraine inform these scenes, which often combine tenderness, humour and a sense of mystery. Their stories remain open, allowing each viewer to make a personal connection.

In her watercolours, Ludmila turns her attention to Ireland’s streets, countryside and coastline. Colourful shopfronts, familiar pubs, historic buildings and changing coastal skies become subjects for paintings that capture both the appearance and character of a place.

Her abstract work explores another side of her practice. Colour, line and form create their own relationships, suggesting movement, structure and atmosphere. Working across media including watercolour, acrylic, oil and tempera, she continues to explore different ways of expressing what she sees and feels.

Across these approaches, colour and emotional atmosphere connect her work. Her paintings are held in private collections in Ireland, elsewhere in Europe, the United States, South Korea and Australia.
