Queen Maeve. 1990. by Jim FitzPatrick
Medb (Maeve) Queen of Connacht, is one of the greatest warrior-queens in both Early Irish History and Mythology. Medb is also one of the principal characters in the famous Irish epic ‘Táin Bó Cuailnge’, The Cattle–Raid of Cooley’.
She reigned over the province of Connaught for many years and had many lovers as well as a husband or two or three, until she was slain by a son of the Ulster king –and her fierce opponent –Conchubar (Conor) MacNessa, himself the son of a woman warrior, while she was naked, unarmed and bathing in a lake.
